Step 2 - Cut, Prep, and Fit the Arms

For my second step, I chose to measure, cut, and test fit the 1/2 inch square aluminum arms. I cut one piece to a length of 24" and it will pass all the way through the center of the frame, serving as two of the four arms. For the remaining 2 arms, I cut two lengths of aluminum to 11 3/4". I also chose to use basswood inserts to help strengthen the frame. The basswood inserts measure 3/8" x 3/8" and needed a little sanding before fitting into the square aluminum tubing. The wood inserts are secured in place with cyanoacrylate glue.
