Kicking off my first multirotor build by following this "Getting Started Guide" link called Basic Quad Copter. I had my brother cut these center plates out on his Shop Bot CNC machine (usually used to cut out wooden boat parts). Slightly thinner than 1/8" aluminum. Bullet proof. I drilled the holes myself as the bit he needed to use to cut these was 1/4". The 1/8" bit broke almost immediately.
I made a template for the holes from a paper printout and marked through it with a marker. Drill press with a 1/8" bit and the plates are ready to go for 3mm hardware.
