QAV500 Quadcopter Build FPV
Posted Image

Hey guys

I would like to share the progress of my current quadcopter project I am busy with. I pre-ordered the FPVmanuals QAV500 frame a couple weeks ago, the official release only being July. It took 3 long weeks for the frame to arrive, but I'm glad it made it in one piece! I began building it that same evening, really excited to get into the quadcopter FPV world!

I got them from multirotor.co.za here in South Africa :)

Thanks Dacat :)
how do you know if youve got the right motor rotation if youve soldered the connections to esc?

soldered, test, unsoldered two and swap?
The motors initially came with bullet connectors, before I cut them off I pluggled them into an ESC which is part of my "test bed" for motors. So I determined the correct motor direction from there.

I was intially suprised to find that once plugged in the Tiger motor spun the opposite direction as to what was intended. From experience I usually know the correct way to plug in the motors to get them to spin the direction I want, ESC heatsink side up, plug all wires in without crossing any of them over would give me CW direction. Then again ESC heatsink side up, plug in the 3 wires while crossing the outside wires to give a CCW direction. This was not true with the Tiger motors, it was the exact opposite. So I was glad I did check before hand :)

hey, what is your AUW in grams and flight time with this setup? im building a quad with AUW around 1760gr, and trying to decide between mt2216 800kv motor or the 900kv version like yours, i will be running 4s, what is stopping me from getting the 900kv version is that i see they get hot in 4s with 10 inch propellers, yours are getting hot? also i see in ecalc that the 800kv version are slightly more efficient in 4s, but im not sure if they will be enough pop for a quad of 1760gr. ecalc say it will hover with 61% throttle with 800kv and with 50% throttle with 900kv.

appreciate your help, thanks!
