Here is my fpv frame. It is 20" motor to motor which makes is about 700 size and comes in at about 350 grams. The arms fold in and are held in place with derlin clips. The 2 center booms are 10mm square carbonfiber and the arms are 10mm bass wood. it will run nx4008 620kv motors on 4s with a 5-6000mah lipo.

I have not flown it yet but have decided to ditch all the hardware and bond the frame together. I will be making plates to run the full length of the exposed center booms top and bottom to place my gear on and stiffen the frame a bit. I originally had wood center booms but the frame had too much flex for my liking so I switched to CF.

looks really nice imdone. Bit big for me though. I see no reason to have such a large frame. I would love to have a quad like the QAV500 that folded up easily for transporting.  My quadrixette folds somewhat, but is a bit small for big moves. I have come to think that 450-500 size is perfect for my style of FPV.

Here is the QAV500 endurance test with a 5000mah 4s Lipo and Tiger 4006 Motors (w/ 10" Graupner E-Props). I did this video in "real-time"... so, feel free to fast forward. This was shot in 1080p, but the final file size what too big and was rejected by YouTube... so had to reduce it down to 720p.

thanks juz. I wanted it big to add in stability and to have the option to use larger props. I will use my flyduspider or a smaller non folding quad if i need to get funky! by the way its about time for a new video bro!

I think it helps to think in extremes. I made a graphic to show why you want the heavy mass close to the prop line. Even in your example, if you had lots of batteries at the center and a heavy camera below it it would not be fully CG optimized. If you had the same mass on the top and bottom and your frame would balance when you stand it on its side, I think you would be ok. Thoughts?

Tim, thank you for such a great explanation.  Your contributions here are becoming invaluable in their simplicity to understand.

kool. I think, if you are flyng with a CopterControl board, larger than 500 doesn't really seem to make a difference to stability. Yeah, a video..haha. I have been busy with building and testing the TBS discovery and hanging out with my family when I am not at work.  When I do have time to fly its raining. <_< Might have something in June ;)

Great post Enthlapy, I am thinking motor choice and battery cells have to come into consideration.  I tend to want a longer flight time for the purpose I want to use FPV for and less acrobatics.  I dont have a lot of experience with frames other that the 450.  But to tell you my experience with the HT-FPV.  I love the HT frame.  I am running heavy 35mm T motors with a 3300 4s battery.  I am averaging 11 to 13 minutes with plenty of pop.  And it just feels solid and strong.  Bear in mind I dont have the experience to be able to push the set up.  I am just learning FPV, but overall the whole set up just feels solid.  The VC450 never did for me.  I dont have the CopterControl board over the COG however it balances perfectly with GoPro and 4s 3300 battery over the COG.  If anything with the Video Battery it may tend to be slightly tail heavy.  I was able to madien fly it with almost stock CopterControl settings and have not changed too many settings from stock and can hover hands off.  I would love to try out the Zombie frame.  Paul looks to have that dialed it in on 4S.  (your running 4S arent you Paul?).  I have no desire to buy a Discovery frame.  Those DJI arms just look too flexy to me.  Quadadict did a great review on the DJI frame. Anyway, just wanted to tell you my opinion of my HT-FPV.  Thanks for the great build logs Enthlapy and great community.

That is an awesome video. Great, smooth flight performance and good flying. I have to get my hands on a CopterControl board!!!! That looks way smoother than... that other FC I am using :)

WOW, and that was a extremely crappy flight, thats why I didnt post it. I was just putting that up for the 1080 30fps for someone else to see.

Thanks for the comments

LOL, thats not the beastie boys <_<

Thats sweet video for 1080...
Damn YT blocked it altogether. It went perfect, and was written by mca rip

Thanks!! But that flight is not that great, the cc was way out of whack for what it could and should be. Its pretty locked in now, and I have some waaaaaay better flight vids on the horizon.

Yes. I go to the memorial on 86th street which has a wide open space, but sometimes there is a bit of pedestrian traffic. I politely ask pedestrians to keep a safe distance away and they are always ok with that. I've never gotten a complaint and sometimes the police watches as well. But, regardless, not a great place to fly. Pedestrians all come up and ask me what "this" is. The standard question and always the first question from kids: "Did you make this?" :)
