Hi
here is my build of the QAV500 V1. I will probably test other motor/esc combinations very soon.

QAV500 + CF landing gear
OpenPilot CC3D
Frankenquad CopterControl protective case
Dragon Link rx
HK F30A Simon K flashed ESCs
fpvmanuals FM 4008 motors
Graupner 10x5 e-props
rmrc 520 FPV camera
1.3ghz 300mW Vtx with cloverleaf antenna
GoPro hero2
layerlens gopro protection
nanotech 4s 2650-3000-3300-4000mah flight packs
ATM I am using a 3s 370mah lipo to power the FPV gear. I will install a volt. reg. soon to run the gear off the 4s flight pack.

AUW between 1690 and 1790 grams

that box again ;)

Testing and tuning session 1

Testing proved that my FM 4008's play nice with the F30A Simon K flashed ESCs. I lowered my roll Kp after those flights.

Hover is at 50% throttle.
Throttle curve is 0-25-50-85-92. Providing most of my available power between half and three quarter throttle.

This quad feels fast. The weight really helps get this thing moving. Big fast FPV flight is fun and easy... it actually feels a bit like a plane.

Nice.. pics wont load for me aswell.
Flight times?
Didn't stay long at the last meet so i missed alot of it.

I've read on some other threads people say there might be a bit of interference when FPV'ing due to aluminium arms, have you had any issues? Or notice less range compared to the other frames?
Still undecided on what FPV frame to go with but QAV is looking good.

Juz.. you have both the HT-FPV and the QAV500.. do you have anything pros/cons to share?

I haven't noticed any performance decrease with the aluminium arms as yet. Probably not a frame to learn FPV flight on IMO.

Haven't flown it enough yet. However, the QAV was very much easier to tune, and is definitely more locked in, especially in yaw. I think that even though my HT has more "pop" the QAV seems way faster. (probably due to the weight). It keeps its momentum even when you back off throttle. Its fun and easy to fly fast. With the CC3D its f*#king amazing.

I see, i might go with something lighter and stick to 3s for my first FPV, but will be building one of these for sure, looks awesome!

I'm not going to build one of these right off. I have plans to fabricate an FPV quad that's slightly smaller, but similar in design, that'll run on 3s and (hopefully) be a bit lighter.

But, I'm really curious why you would say, "Probably not a frame to learn FPV flight on IMO." Could you expound on that a bit?

Thanks...

Jack

Have to agree with Juz on the QAV500 not being the best choice for starting FPV with a multirotor. I'd suggest something cheap...Like a DJI F450 (or clone) or something from Goodluckbuy that has enough room. Back when I started, you had to make your own frame. That's probably the best option, plus it's fun. I'm too busy these days to do that anymore, but I would certainly love to make another DIY frame for bashing ;)

Well, that's exactly what I'm doing... Making my own. Gotta be able to fix it with tools and stuff I have available. Decent wood is cheap and easy to come by, and usually only takes a week to 10 days to get by mail. Thanks!
