I have just finished building my HT-FPV frame which looks well cool but it doesn't seem to fly aswell as my VC450 Frame. I'm only using the default settings at the moment but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it fly better or even better some settings to get me started?

Cheers

If you are talking about the Yaw, I've found that decreasing my yaw mix to about 45, then increasing my yaw gain to really like (like 6 or so) really helps get it locked in.

I my HTFPV mods, I used 3 washers to prop the two rear motors forward, Making it an HTFPVtail. If you are using 3S and 8" props, this helps out alot with yaw authority.

When i ditched my last one in the water, I hadn't finished retuning it with the new CopterControl board. However, With a yaw gain around 7, V-tail, and reduced yaw mix to 45, I wasn't having any problems with yaw authority.

Decreasing the pitch mix to 37 and increasing the yaw gain seemed to have a good effect on the flight characteristics to me.

Once i get my next one I'll really tune it down and post the settings.

Pete, this is interesting... my HT-FPV hasn't had any attention for many, many weeks.

In my HTFPV mods, I used 3 washers to prop the two rear motors forward, Making it an HTFPVtail. If you are using 3S and 8" props, this helps out alot with yaw authority.

Do you mean that they were pitched towards the front of the quad, or inwards? Becuse in my mind inwards yields a V-Tail..?
And by how much (i.e. how thick were the spacers)?

Thanks,

K

THe typical V-tail, with the motors point AWAY from each other, is done so that their prop wash doesn't mix and cause bad JOO-JOO. With the HTFPV, the motors are so far apart, that isn't a problem. Basically, look down your rear left arm, from motor to FC. You want the washers on the two motor bolts to the RIGHT of the arm, so the motor is pointing to the LEFT of the arm, which is basically forward.

Like that. After this and the yaw mix adjustment, my quad had no problems with yaw authority.

Yeah, inwards-pointing versus outwards-thrusting... the semantics get odd (MixMaster Mat is always my default reference point).

Thanks for the pics and such, that clears up the differences. I'll try it.

Do you fly without that far spacer screwed in? My HT-FPV has more Jello than Bill Cosby. Without those spacers holding that motor plate tight, it would be worse. I had to even super glue a couple of them due to play. Also, this is a protype frame right? ...before the arms had more spacers in'em?

Might try this v-tail trick.. thanks for all the testing you've done!

i just got some 12x6 APC 'e' props that were supposed to go on my now totally broken QAV500 but now i'm toying with the idea of putting them on my HTFPV

Yeah, I dont know if its my setup or the frame but when hovering it suddenly justs yaw to the right or left. Is this what you mean by the yaw problem?

Sorry for late reply been busy with work.

I never noticed that. Your saying if you take your hands off the sticks (hovering) it yaws randomly? Mine doesnt... Few weeks ago i was indoors at a gym, i let go of my sticks while hoving 5ft in the air, it didnt yaw at all, it moved to the side maybe an inch after a minute. was very very stable. I never noticed a sudden yaw issue with mine...I fly 9" props, no mods, and my settings are decently close to stock, i have my yaw set higher so it turns really quickly. I hover quiet often. when it comes to 'showing off' to new people, thats like one of the first things i do. Motionless hovering with hands off the sticks to say "Look how stable these things are"

Fun stuff :)

scottevil - where did you get that calculation chart from? Trying to figure out what motor, prop, esc config will work with a heavy build DJI 550 I'm building. Thanks.

don't rely on it too heavily, i've tried some setups based solely on eclac and sometimes it's over/under optimistic. It's just good for getting an idea

Yea, I started with a Gaui 330x then graduated to a VC450 with GoPro Hero2 (still my main craft) and now onto bigger and hopefully better DJI F550 for some better quality aerial photography and video. What camera do you use, GoPro, NEX, Lumix?
