Cool. The Maxim is a *great* chip but we won't use it as its over $20, if it was less, hell yeah as its great. But the price is just a killer, we are aiming for something around $45 with an STM32 AND the GPS. Not possible if we used a $20 OSD IC.

This sounds like an OP OSD is more planned than I was aware of.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the OP OSD plans?

I am drooling for OSD to be available with Pro/INS or with any GPS support.

Edit: I just read that that Super-OSD is fully open source (HW and SW) and has both audio and video modems.

Its a big job that has only just started, the main effort must be to get the Pro done first and that is what we are working on. However don't expect anything too revolutionary with the OP OSD, it is aimed to be low cost and provide just the basics.

Besides the Pro we have the ESC and the PipX to get out there as well, so the OSD right now is a very rough outline.

By all means, I understand that Pro/INS must come first.

Has anything been decided about the OSD? Will the OSD have graphics capability? What resolution text and graphics? OSD chip directly controlled from the main processor via I2C or other bus so we can make it draw anything?

Howabout just using this chip from maxim: MAX7456. Its singlechip OSD solution, it needs just external clock 26Mhz and blocking caps. All control is done through SPI.
Lot of open software to start with:

See discussion above. Dankers already commented about the use of the MAX7456.
That IC is too expensive...

What about all the people who have one of the Eagle Tree standard OSDs? Are they going to continue to work and do they work with CC?

I would hope it will continue to work and that we will continue to support it as long as we no not have made our own OSD. We have it, why not make it available?
I fully agree that doing more effort to support the PRO version is a waste of time.

Unfortunately I currently have no time for my hobby at all. I am rebuilding my home and there is no more time left for RC... :( The only thing I do is fly my quad from time to time to take pictures of the construction work. All my RC stuff is stored in boxes in my temporary home.

So, I did not compile the code for a few months now, I do not know if the ET OSD module still builds and is in sync with the current UAVObjects. If it is not, should not be too much work to have it in sync.
For CC, we also needed a level-shifter. I don't know that the state of that is now.
