There is a very informative, well written article by TJ Bordelon in Circuit Cellar mag #238 May 2010 Title "The FreeSpace IMU, A Quaternion-Based Algorithm for Attitude Estimation."

Thanks for bringing it up, Phil.  I purchased that article many months ago.  It doesn't use a Kalman filter for sensor fusion, nor a PID controller for navigation.  Just want to make that clear to others, so that they know what they're purchasing (I think it's $2.00 for the online article).  It still, however, works well... per TJ Bordelon's test flights and mappings.
