Super cool build video. Really liked it.

What a clean build over all. Nicely integrated components and just enough sealant to keep the water out. By far the best aquacopter I've seen!

Cant wait for more footage!!

Nice.

How many amps can that switch handle?

How does the baro handle being sealed?

@Team Dropbear

Sorry didn't know. I'm new to this forum so just posted in 'multirotors'... didn't realise it has to be about OP

I'm sure a mod will move it if they deem so.  ;) or you can ask them to  :)

----------------

@John888

Hey John... your build actually inspired some of my build so thank you!  ;)

The switch is rated to 25A @ 12v - look here - I think you have to have a switch of some kind if you go down the GPS route and you would be moving it all over the place putting the battery in and the module, this way I get everything in and sealed without wasting any battery and I can position the quad prior to trying to get *** lock.... it works really well.

To be totally honest I haven't noticed any issues with the baro as yet, though I have the 'breathable' patch on order... I'll see how it goes.

*** holds nice too (after wrapping the GoPro case in 4 layers of copper tape!)

The 3s battery is giving me 7mins @ 80% use and the battery is barely warm. Its a 3350mAh. Cant get a 4s in there as I am limited to battery height due to the module I built.

Also I am using 900kv motors. Really doesn't need anything more in my opinion, and if I did I think I would have heating issues.

Hope it helps out others getting ready to do their build  :D

Thanks for your kind words!!  :)

Dude its perfectly fine that you posted it here on this forum, it may not have an OpenPilot board, but the build itself is nice and demonstrates the aquacopter setup well. Other users can also use any info you provide about it in a future aquacopter build that they might be planning. So its all good :)

Jeese I'm actually 'wowing' Aquacopter not **** but never mind. The purpose of my post was purely to show others what I had done and hopefully help others when they build their's (isn't that what forums are all about?)

Anyway, I'll keep it in mind then for future....   If this post bothers you or the forum owners that much then just remove it  ;)

I don't see any harm in having more than one aquacopter build on the forum.

Each is slightly different from the other, and shares a different way of doing things which can prove very helpful to others.

Edit: For example how many QAV500 builds etc are here on the forums !

I dont see much wrong with folks posting there builds,

as long as we dont get into a Ford/Chevy debate,

and of course theres alot of folks posting/flying "other" boards untill they finally get a CC3D

Yea, some of the people were not as lucky as some to get OP boards. But everyone wants them after seeing what they can do.  :)

Always looking for new and better ways!

Hey Doug,

You might want to watch that switch.

I'm no expert but guessing that your motors could probably pull a max of about 20 amps each, so times that four = 80A. Of course that's only when punching out.

Fast flying might get up to about 15A per motor (x 4) as a rough guess.

Don't really know what happens if a switch fails, maybe it just stays on?

Probably worth doing a bit of research about. Please share any info you find!!!

Or... is it just to the BEC? Not taking peak power?

Does the GoPro affect the GPS that much without shielding?

I'm curious about breathable options too, have ordered a Kickstarter-style Revo and might try it in the Aquacopter when it's ready, which means a baro consideration.

I didn't have much luck with 4S and 1200kv motors, they pushed the limits with 9 inch props (in general on open quads) but even at a fairly slow flying pace, heat inside the aquacopter seemed to make the battery puff a bit. It was a 3000mAh 20C Zippy that I (just) maneuvered in.

I'm back to 3S but up to 10 inch props and still 1200kv motors. Warm inside but not hot, and the battery doesn't seem puffy.

I've since bought some 800kv Sunnysky's to move to either 9 or 10 inch props on 4S but haven't got around to swapping over yet. Might keep using the 1200's until something major happens to them, then swap over.

PS: I've got a small suggestion re. the discussion of a Naza topic in the Open Pilot forum. Maybe just modify the heading to say Aquacopter with GPS, Build Log by hazardpro.

Seeing something big and bold in a heading probably jumps out more at some people.

In this context, using a Naza is secondary to the main point of how you built your waterproof quad (and hopefully add some cool future videos). Just my 2c worth.

and yet another off topic comment in a thread partly about something that is FAR away from OP

see you can be just as annoying as me and just as off topic as me

this is a OP forum NOT a NAZA forum there was no need to mention it or the GPS that is part if its kit

I'll be honest I hadn't heard of Open Pilot prior to seeing Johns build log of his Aquacopter, since that I have been doing research on the CC3D and it does look good, may use it for a new build I'm working on so its all good :)

Happy to change the title though I cant see how? Perhaps a mod can change it?

Switch - hmm good point, ill have to look into that. I'm not sure what is being pulled through the switch but I'll have to try and figure it out :)

I def had issues with my Gopro3 on this and my TBS, covered the case in copper tape (ebay), it took several layers before it didn't cause a issue. The tape weighs nothing though so it has no adverse effect on anything.

harzardpro: I enjoyed your vid.

Q: what's your solution for taking off AND landing with the GoPro attached underneath the quad?
