ok, PipX modems are not generally available yet, but I just could not resist: unprotected circuit boards are ok for testing in the lab, but they deserve a proper enclosure when used in the field. So here you are: a generic PipX enclosure, just fresh from laser cutting!

Is this a DIY enclosure or are these going to be offered with the rest of the hardware?

The main store won't offer these as its hard enough as it is to try and get the hardware out there! Its the same thing with cases for the boards, really for a pro product at the level OP is, cases for the flight hardware would be expected but these value adds will be left for people selling on OP as a complete ready to roll system.

The main idea of the store is to keep the costs down for raw boards and I view OP as the kernel of a great UAV, we need our "Redhat" type guys to package it and offer support for the people wanting a ready to go platform all nicely boxed with an airframe and support contract etc.

I've just received my AR. Drone. The center module is mounted in foam. The flight controller, camera, sonar, wifi and battery are in it. My guess that the main reason the AR. Done is so stable is this isolation system. Hardware always interfaces with sensors.  It is possibly worth considering an enclosure for the electronic with isolation. Approximately 75 percent of the AR.D mass is concentrated in the module. Just a thought.

Definitely something we all found is critical is at least foam mounting the INS board.  The argument is that putting all the electronics together and foam mounting that is even better because you have more mass isolated - but mine hardware is all sprawled all over the quad frame.

The AR. Drone has probably already surpassed all other RTF multicopers in numbers of sales and is just getting started.  AT $300 dollars it shows the power of shooting for high numbers of sales. If openpilot is looking to sell to DIY community, that would include some not so gifted builders, it could be a good idea to have a standard enclosure with foam isolating mount.

Perhaps we could outsource this to someone like Ponoko.  They offer laser cutting and 3d printing at reasonable rates, and ship internationally from factories in New Zealand, America and Europe.  All you need to supply is a design.

I used Ponoko for my enclosure design, actually, worked great!

Maybe you can add the image back to the first post? In the forums downtime and move it went missing, nothing I could do as the latest backups of the file system were from September...
