Well Im impressed in that case then! I have only been using 1.3 so far but 5.8 is known for poor penetration and range (read on a thread that even a thin three will affect your video quality) so I am impressed you have been wandering around the forest with the 200mhz 5.8ghz gear.. You may have convinced me to get the 5.8 goggles and immersion 600mhz Vtx.. do you think I should be ok with that flying around in parks, etc.. (not that I have too many trees where I live but well anyway..) Can't wait to put the Q-30 together :)
Oh take the opportunity to ask something else. I have read on the german forum (I speak german as well ;) ) that you are working on a Q-40, have you considered a Hexa spider as well? I reckon they may not be the best weight-flight endurance wise for FPV but they look soooo cool :)

If you use circular polarized antennas, the results will be very satisfying, i promise! It is a difference as night & day.

Regarding the Q40: Yep, this is my priority-one-topic i'm working on. I also have about 4 prototypes for new frames types at home, it's just not enough time and good weather to keep working on them :-)

Regarding the Hexa spider there already is Pauls frame here, so i don't see the need for creating another one. But there are 2 hexas i am working on. One you can find here, the other one here;-)

Thanks for your reply, interesting projects you are working on hehe..
I like the small but capable size of the Q-30 over the bigger spider hexa so will stick to that one but thought a hexa of this size would be cool too.
Thanks again, I will think about the 5.8ghz.. (im using skew and clover as well on the 1.3)
Viele Grüsse!

I dont think so ;), here is mine on the way..:

A tip to all the people longing for a CC board. I will now have 2 and none of these were directly acquired from OP or their associated stores. If you really want one you need to check several times daily for people selling one and also look in ebay. Phrases like: "open pilot" or "copter control" site:.ebay.* help considerably to find one.

That's a lot to pay for a cc board! But I guess it's a supply and demand thing.  I was lucky and bumped into a guy the other day who hasn't used his and so I asked if he wanted to sell it. £70 later and it's mine!!

Yep it is but I console myself thinking it already includes the Frankenquad protective case + adapter board (+ shipping from the US). Eventually I wanted (needed) the CC for my coming Q-30 so I was quite ready to pay even up to 250$ if I had to..(I sold my Vyper 65" to be able to fund this coming project),, oh well...

I was also bidding on that board, but when it went over 175.00 I thought that was to much, At least it went to someone in the OP Community. Con Grats on your winning bid

Yeah I got a cc, I found it on rcgroups............a few days before that action ended. So that was also a reason to not go any higher,  I am also building the Q30, I have most of my parts. I am going to post pics when i have more complete on the frame

Seems we are sitting both in the same boat ;). I also just received the Q-30 today and am missing only the CC at this point.. I am going to start today the building, lets see how it turns out. The pieces of the Q-30 looks great and it is even smaller than I thought, great!
Good luck with yours Tex

Well, it does'nt seem to be that easy for a Qx power distribution board: as 40A or more might be drawn from the battery, the openpilot control board for sure does'nt like to be in the middle of a strong, continuous changing inductive field (surrounded by + and - printed wires). So its better to place those leads just on one side of the fcb. I etched the leads separately, just to go ahead and to avoid another double sided board for the time being. + on top, - on the other side. Now 0,3mm solid german silver. Should be enough for some tests. Later, this could be done using 0,70um doubled sided pcb. This pcb could also replace one of the original boards. Felias, maybe an option? Etched wires could also be mounted on your boards directly (using pcb-rivets or just bending edges).
I've read the power board thread. Would be nice to have a general "open power distribution board" with all those nice additional features, but would that help with flying special or "asynchcronous" frames?? I am still a copter-greenhorn, but I don't like wires in the sky...

Small update on the bigger version (40cm motor distance, fits 10" props): First prototypes are ready, one is on its way to a totally secret beta tester now :-)
If the test flights are going well, it'll be in the shop soon.

Oh, and i also tested carbon-fibre arms. Anyone interested in these? I can add them predrilled to the shop as well (at least for the Q30, and the Q40). They are about 35% lighter.

@Petronio: Yes, the black glass-fibre material i use was not available for some time. It is again, so i'm gonna have new black Q30s and GoPro-housings available in about a week.

Best wishes,
Nic

yep, me 2. You can then use either 8" props and have them out of sight completely, or use 10" props for higher load capacity.

Regarding powerboards: Do you have an example? If it has the size of a normal board, you can always stack them underneath the normal board. With the Q40, you have even enough space to place it beneath the centerplates (so you can "rack" in both directions :-)
