I finally got around to making a dome for my micro.  3mm standoffs mounted with nuts to half a Christmas ornament ball and cable tied to the arms.

Looks great ALPackin, how did you go with the tuning?    The X8 looks interesting, how did it go?

It was me that drew that one up and I got Graham @ quadframes to cut it for me. I did mine with smaller lighter motor mounts but Graham added the bigger mounts for a wider selection of motors. Here's mine with the smaller mounts using Robbe 2216/25 motors and of course a CC.

I've now got the CC in a Frankenquad case to protect it. Not had time to fly her much due to the lovely weather we have here at the moment (70 mph winds today!!). She's also on her 3rd set of ESC's. 1st set (6amp Turnigy) she released the magic smoke in a hover from one of them so they got replaced with a set of 10amp RC Max only to discover you cannot set the throttle range on them! Now running Mystery 10amp and so far all is looking good. The only good thing to come from all this esc swapping is I can use the turnigy esc's on my mini quad when it arrives.

Snaggs,

How much did that hex weigh?  I'm working up a BlueSky version that will be very similar, with FPV gunk on it...  Worried about the weight.

I've just popped her on the scales and she comes in with an AUW of 449 grammes with no battrey. I did everything i could to keep the weight down on her. The arms are 8mm carbon pulltruded with some carbon tow wrapped round the motor ends to stop it splitting. Main frame is 1.5mm g10.

I would use 10amp ESCs that are rated for 3S because you will want to run 3S.  Those motors are very smooth running and I like them but only upside down :)  I have to put that quad back together, I stole the landing gear to build this one which didn't work out too well.  Actually it was working well as a Y6 then I made it into this X8 and it doesn't fly now.  The X8 design must be really inefficient ...  I recorded video while I was trying to string tune it last night ... I'll see about uploading it

Oh man, thats a bummer that it doesn't fly. I think because its almost as high as it is wide, it acts more like a rudder, not willing to flip.

Thanks for the heads up. I bougt the 2S ESC's because theres no data about them, i just went with the HK spec's.
But i have another 12A plush laying around here, so i wil test it on 3s to.
I've already made a motor testing bench. now lets wieght on HK .

edit

Anyone know some good shops with a veriety of Props to test with a 2200kv park250 motor?

Ya know, I was staring at the photo and trying to estimate the size of it, and I'm prolly way off...   Could you also give some specs?  Motors, prop size, lengths from center of the FC to center of motors, etc?

I appreciate it!  (I'm trying to estimate if my BlueSky Hex is going to fly with FPV stuff on it.  It got kinda heavy... )

Snaggs,

There's some pretty cool stuff you have going on there...   For such a small frame, I was surprised that such "large" motors fly it so well (saw the vid from Camaroon)...  Do you find it the same, easier, or harder to fly than a full-sized quad?

Hey guys i've drawn a mini tonight. I think this is what i'm going to build.
I've not put to much effort into it, but you wil get an idea.
The frame wil be made out of 1 sheet CFK dunno' yet if 2mm wil be strong enough,
becasue i was also thinking of 3mm. then it should be unbreakable..ghehe :D

frame width is 8'' .
M to M diagonal wil be 10''
Motors in the drawing are 23mm diameter.
Props in the drawing are 5x3.
center diameter is 85mm with a 80mm dome ontop.
edit;
weight in 2mm thick CF sheet wil be about 40grams.
weight in 3mm thick CF sheet wil be around 60grams.

2mm will be plenty strong enough.  Personally, I would go for 1.5, or even 1.  Something that small doesn't need much strength, although 1mm "might" have some flex, but not much.

Recycling weekend :-)

Took the hardware from my mini quad and decided to put my FPV gear on it. Hey it's a fatty mini fpv but it hover at 50% throttle and weight 600gr.

Also build this mini spider from an old IKEA halogen lamp http://www.ikea.com/...ducts/00128782/
For the story the lamp was not working and decided to throw it away and well I started taking it apart only to realise that the top part of the lamp will suit for the arms of a mini quad. Hey you guess the rest!

E-Flite 2mm Prop Adapter Note: the hub of the 5x3 3blades is slightly thinner and you'll require to fit a washer or rubber grommet below the flat washer

The motor work on 3s they use 4amp and pull 200gr but the motor are getting warm/hot hotter than I like. On 2s they work fine.
I have used both the 1811 and now this and the 1811 seems better but more fragile

hey guys, got some news about the park250 motor that i couldn't weight to tell.

Its already 2 o'clock in the morning, but couldn't resist trying my bench out.
I was pretty amazed tought, i would do one test at 51gram push with a mini quad that would be around hover level.
Used a gws 5x3x3. Scale read 51gram. Its acurate as hell. In europe its very simple to test a scale on accuracy.
100ML water weighs exactly 100Gram. :D  Watmeter was leveling around 5.9 wat on a 7.75volt PSU.
damn!!... that's 8,64 G/w :o  first test.
