Nice Design, cool accessories, excellent software...at least what they have shown.....can't help but wonder, why all the editing though?

What kills me, is this thing probably cost $100K for a basic package, If Corvus, Kenn, Dankers, Oswnt, James, PT_Dreamer and the rest of our Dev's were in one location for about two weeks, without any disturbances....I have no doubt, they would kick their ass for under $10K....Thats reality!

The really cool thing is...with all the work that has been done here, mostly in their spare time, actually all their spare time...OP is pretty damn close to this project...on Multiple Airframes....OP Rules!
Looking Forward to the Maiden

Pretty sure he cross-threaded that nut at 0:09. But at least it was all sorts of cool and blue!

Hahaha, I though _exactly_ the same thing.

Either way, very cool video, although it looks like it took him a very long time to set that thing up. I was almost expecting the assembly montage to be a joke and turn into and endless amount of steps.

I saw another similar video a year ago. A delta was brought to a field in a case, powered, hand-launched, cruised along a preprogrammed path, and self-landed. Without any setup or R/C transmitter or GCS.

I've attended a demo of this GateWing product. It works as advertised but has tmho two drawbacks:
  • Price > 40K EUR excl mapping software
  • You need a good launch and landing strip (compared to a multicopter)
The plane can not be controlled once airborn, only Loiter, Return Home and Kill are available options. But it does the job well and faster than a multicopter. It is because of this speed advantage that the X100 can cover a much larger area at once. They use standard RC parts and photo camera except for the wing, firmware and remote control.

Nice if you can spend the money!

That is super impressive, but something tells me all of the above (and more) will soon be available for us "mortals" who don't have an extra 100k to spend ;-)

They care a lot about safety so they have a long pre-flight checklist. Belgium is a small country and urbanized in a chaotic way, rural areas are quite rare and we don't want a ban on UAVs.

I can't imagine something more boring than a fully autonomous vehicle...

It can take out the human factor and can be really useful.

As we spoke about a while back (wow almost a year) on the FOSS Weekly show, we are working on Python scripting for the Revo and aim to have autonomous 3D flight with it.

True, but this is intended for taking orthophotos and mapping. At the RC club most heli pilots find my CC also boring, but I like it! :)

Exactly, for serious use cases it would be good to do away with needing a pilot all the time. And even for FPV, return home and other features are very useful.

@dankers, great interview and refreshing!  It gave me a much better picture of who you fellows are, and really shows your altruism about the OpenPilot project.  A breath of fresh air, especially after following another large drone group over the last  year.
