Not too late to be a pilot, Sports Pilot rating is very reasonable in cost today....then you are only about  5 instructor hours, 20 flight hours and a Medical from getting your PPL

Looking at the VC 450 frame I can't help thinking, Gas over Spring Struts from RC cars might be a functional addition to absorb moderate hard landings....but then,  you would

need to reinforce the legs some too

Maybe one day, I hear insurance for training is expensive as hell.

Nah i wana it as light as i can, plus i feel that the landing gear serve their purpose well, it protected everything else. I consider them disposable.

If juz loses signal and plows his quad deep enough into the ground, does it pop up in Chicago?

Relaxing tonight in front of the laptop, going over through footage.  Should be heading back home Monday afternoon. Couple of my friends here with me are professional photographers, and took some cool pictures and video.  Got some cool shots from them.  Here are some snap shots.

Are you using DragonLink/EzUHF on your Tx? Noticed that big bulky thing behind your transmitter (to the left in the picture   )

Damn you're lucky you only lost the legs!  And those may have saved your GoPro by absorbing some of the blow.  I can't imagine the GoPro would be able to survive a violent fall from 800 feet!!  Well, a "fun" fall, a violent landing  ;)

Can't wait to see the footage!

Wow, 800 feet? Did it actually fall flat, or just happen to be flat when it hit the ground?

It was a controlled maneuver, it landed flat. I watched the raw file a bunch of times and concluded i made 2 errors. One, i miss judged the amount of height i needed, not realizing how fast the drop would actually be. Second, hesitated on punch out / not enough of a punch to compensate for the free fall.

astronutski is right, the landing gear absorbed quite abit of the impact. The jolt actually bent the aluminum tab a bit but no impact on the GoPro.

When the video is out I’ll get a short clip of the attempt up as a testament to the durability of the VC-450 frame.

That VC450 frame is a thing of wonder. Mine tumbled out of the sky from about 100-150 feet and I only broke two arms.

If you only saw how bad Pete beats up on his. I keep telling him we need to make a crash compilation video.

I have in the past, the problem with the e-cigarette is that i dont know when to stop, and the battery life sucks.

you choose the wrong one ... try this one: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdSyQHB_cKI" the tank system is cool (no need to add liquid each 5 minutes) the 650 mah battery is perfect for me for a full day (I smoke about 20 cig/day before) and as an option they sell a huge battery (1100mah I think) if you want ... the only pb with this e-cig is ... it's an ugly one IMO :-). Sorry for this out of topic, and my bad english...

Just ordered a few sets of those. I figure I can try them since they are cheap...You get your Gaui props at an LHS or online somewhere specific?
