that is awesome Justin!  sadly it seems the props still show up (if just a little bit, but they do) :)  can't wait for this to go on sale.  Tom might have to do a lot of cutting :)

Yep.

@juz, curious to the AUW when you've added the FPV gear.

I like it.  Can't wait to see vids and hear what kinds of flight times you get off this frame.  Your threads and this community is most intriguing.

Juz,

On your other quad it appears that you added another center plate, for the GoPro to sit on, under the main one.  I wonder if this same set up would put the props out of view?

juz, maybe you could try to flip the centerplates .. so the cameraplate is on top and hang the Gopro upside down(like the right way in down under ;) i had to say that, sorry)
so the lens will be a bit further away from the props... not sure if its enough to get them out total

If juz loses signal and plows his quad deep enough into the ground, does it pop up in Chicago?

Hi Juz - smooth flight, great work!
But whats about the x-camo and the x-turtle design?
- x-camo: hard to find in case of "unintended landings"
- x-turtle: "unintended landings"? no problem, gives at least a nice soup :D  !
- 2012 = "no unintended landings" this year, but a lot of nice soups!

Take care...Dieter

Hi Dieter
Not really any harder to find than a black frame. I could always use orange props to help. I usually use the sound of the motors to find my downed quads. The idea with the design is to eliminate the view of the propellers thru the gopro. Turtle soup

Yeah, I guess thats why Tom gave the frame to me to test. To find out these things and give him feedback. He may change some things before production.

1280 grams AUW. Includes Gopro, 520 FPV cam, 300mw Vtx, 370mah 3S battery, 3000mah 3S flight battery. (no OSD)

Yeah, I could change things, but I really like the low profile of this setup. Maybe 9 inch props would do it? Or set the gopro to 1080HD at 120' FPV.

haha. same answer as above, just like how low/sporty this setup is...the whole quad is only 10cm tall!

Had a very short FPV maiden in back yard (too hot and windy), definitely need to tune it a little. Feels a little loose..I will try raising rate Kp a little. I also have to deal with some vibrations thru gopro.

Couple of pix with FPV gear installed.

maaaaaybe, he offered one to me out of the kindness of his heart   i wouldn't wanna get an inch and take a mile :)

As far as props in few, i can only see the left one? So maybe shifting the gopro around a bit might get it out of view. That said, i'll be running 8" props and a KK board (only got on CC, lol), But this frame has been tested with a Quadrino and a CC, so a KK test is prolly a good idea for through testing.

Juz, mine's not as cool as yours tho, mine's blue :P

Blue's cool. 8 inch props would work. If you look closely you can see both props. (one slightly more than the other)

I have a whole box of 10 inch props but keep coming back to the 8 inch ones as I find them more stable with my setup and get horrible wobble with the 10's.

Is there a technical reason for using 10's, maybe draws less power?

I'd have thought that to completely remove the view of the props you would need to have the centre tab extend further forward so its in front of the arms not level with them, I guess more like a twin prop plane. That gopro would be the first thing into the ground in a nosedive though...

Personally I like the props in my FPV view too, but for useable footage from the gopro I definitely dont want to see them.

Looking forward to seeing you cutting lose with fpv in that thing Juz.

Center of lens is not in center of frame, so this is why you see one prop more than other. I'm working on my go pro gimbal with lens in center.

Yea you are right Kistjan, it's hard though cos I think ideally the gopro needs to be pretty centred for weight, but the lens itself is not in the centre of the camera, it is off to one side.

Curious to see how your gimbal works around that as I have the same issue and am looking for a gimbal solution?

Still work in progress, but here is my idea. Have to make model of both servos... and add some parts to hold camera.

Nice start to the year Juz. now i'm the one sliping.
when it comes to prop's in veiw; i found i like it.  i changed the camera to 960x48  & that cut the sides
from view.  square screen, instead of wide screen.   so 720x50 is fine for me; prop's in sight.

I guess I have stayed with 10 inch because for me, it seems that I get faster initial throttle response. The 8's will react faster but don't provide the instant lift that I feel with 10s. Now, with all this talk of 8 inch props (pete, others and yourself) I gave some a go today. I think they may be better on this frame... the props dissappear from view :) , less vibrations :D , and there still was enough pop to keep me happy ;) .

So big thanks to Pete and yourself for making me try 8's again...Did my first double forward flip today with them ....more tests needed..but so far I like 'em.

Yeah I like them too but the idea of this frame was to have clean video from a gopro.

Maiden flight of the hoverthings FPV frame. I have always wanted to fly at the BMX track. Perfect place to test this puppy out. I flew in rate mode.
A bit more tuning is needed. The tail wags back and forth like a flying wing. Tips anyone?

What sort of roll and pitch Kp differences should I set given the layout of this frame? Higher Kp for pitch?

I will upload a more agressive flight in very high winds tomorrow.
