Hi Everyone, by now you wil have noticed we have a member map :) Thanks David!!!!
I have created a custom flying field icon, unfortunately, only admins can add them so, to further our community harmony, I will volunteer.

[Update (Jan 14, 2012): We have determined that the member map and any points on it are only accurate to the nearest street address known by google. While this wont affect most people as most people live in a house with a street address, however it will affect things like flying fields and it can mean that they are inaccurate by quite a distance. This is a limitation some middleware in use to bring you the Map. OpenPilot is working on a new Map and when its ready, I will announce it here and update this post. For now please keep adding your locations to the map, and thanks for sharing!]

Here is what you do. First, go put yourself on the map :)

Next if you want your local flying field, post in this thread and follow this format exactly or I wont be able to add your flying field.
Here is mine as an example:

Location Name (Keep it short please): Fort Smith, NT Canada - Landslide Park

Description (Describe it to your hearts content, you can even add a foto): This is a great place to fly all seasons, flying FW, Heli or Multi, LOS, AP or FPV. The field and the slopes are separated by a road, there is a lookout stand with bino viewers and it all overlooks the mighty slave river and the rapids of the drowned.

Address or latlon (Must be google maps compatible): 60.011843, -111.891004

If you post this info here, I will add your marker to the map.
Cheers
Franco

It would be really nice if people take the time to add themselves to the map, I suspect this project is really global but I know there are places that are really rare where I have shipped boards, be good for them to show up as well.

I put my location on the map. It's the park where I fly, and it's located near our house.

Um  ok, but thats not how it works or what you are supposed to do. People wont know its a place to fly, they will think it is where you live, because it has a person icon and no description, If you follow the outlined procedure as listed in the first post, you can have both. Its up to you though....

Well, there are a lot of homeless people here living in parks, but fortunately we're not among them. :-)

Location Name (Keep it short please): Crestview Community Park

Description (Describe it to your hearts content, you can even add a foto): This park is listed by the City and County of Honolulu as a legal flying field. It's located several blocks from our house, making it very convenient. Best time to fly is early in the morning before the other park-users show up.

Address or latlon (Must be google maps compatible): 94-1220 Lumikula St. Waipahu, HI 96797-4017

Here's my great club field.

Location Name (Keep it short please): Model Aircraft Club of Sunbury (MACS)

Description (Describe it to your hearts content, you can even add a foto): MACS is great place to fly. Set in a field along with cows, sheep and at times goats (kept under control, by electric fence). Weekend and Midweek (essentially retirees) flying.

Address or locatlon (Must be google maps compatible): On Wildwood Rd, Wildwood, Victoria, Australia - exact coordinates -37.553398, 144.795996.

Regards

Also, I have enabled the Map in your user profile, so when you go to a persons profile, if that person has put thier location on the flying map, that location will show in their profile so that you can see where they live.

Do you think its possible to have a link like "See on the map page" from the persons profile?

Thanks Franco. I think I messed up the coordinates, looks like a little to the left of the field. If you zoom in, the club shed is about 30 mentres to the right of the drop pin. But pretty close.
