I have been looking into getting a compass module to play with and I have noticed a huge difference in prices between modules. For example:

Approx $300 - http://littlebirdele...nsation-os5000s

Approx $30 - http://littlebirdele...sated-compass-1

Why the huge price difference?

What are you looking for when you get a compass module?

The cheap breakout board just gives you the accelerometer data and magnetic data and you have to do all the calculations yourself, while the expensive board does all the work for you and give you nice magnetic heading, roll and pitch values over RS-232 ready to plug into your system.

You could also have a look at some HMC5883 breakout board. They are very cheap and there is a lot of code ready for them  (and a lot more people able to support you in case of need).
