I live right under them (Auroa borealis) for 8 months of the year, and so far I have had zero luck capturing the aurora with a quad :( mind you I only have a gopro, not a gopro2....

Sun activity is not constant over time, it is varying with ~11 years period. Since 2008 Sun was unexpectedly quiet, no Solar flares. It was quite phenomena and mystery for science society (i.e. no Solar flares => no new data => nothing to study => do we need to pay scientists if they are doing nothing and waiting for flares? :D ), but not a long time ago Sun "cured" and started to make scientists happy :) In nearest years we will get more and more solar events.

PS Sun's "day" (time needed for Sun to make a full turn) is 28 days, Moon need roughly 28 days to make one orbit around the Earth, someone's else.... period... is roughly 28 days...
