For a long time we had a Modem called the PipX, it was designed by Pip and she did a lot of work on it, we also funded a couple of rounds of prototypes and they work well, we had about 8km range out of them.

They have been complete for sometime, almost a year but we did not have the resources to produce them which is a shame.

The project is broke, well worse than that but you don't want to know, however I would like to produce these as I think they are needed. To do this I think I would like to try community funding them, kind of like our own mini kickstarter I guess.

I've added a product on the store for these if you ant to be one of the first to get a pair and help fund the initial batch:

http://store.openpil...otype-pair.html

The price is A$145.95 for a pair of modems without antennas, so you will need 2 x 434Mhz antennas also. There is only going to be 20 pairs offered in this funding attempt and they will take 6 weeks to produce, also keep in mind that if there is interest in them, the production version will get cheaper, these small runs of hardware are fairly expensive so you will unfortunately will pay a premium for getting them first.

I have also attached the schematic here if people are interested, please do the right thing and don't run off and clone it, there has been a lot of effort and money put in to this.

Count us in for anything like that. 8km programmable range sounds like just the ticket.

Edited the first post. I am scared doing this as it is a new thing but these need to get out there, it's been far too long and the code has been sat fully usable in Git for too long. If you are interested have a look at it.

There is even a GCS plugin for them so they can be configured as well.

I don't have one the of the originals as I gave them all away, however if one of the devs that do have one of the first versions could post a picture it would be good. Mounting holes are same as the CC of course, on board USB etc.

Order placed. That's actually not a bad price, considering that it's not much more than a pair of Xbee Pro 900Mhz from Sparkfun, and they're not programmable.

Yes, fastest purchasing deptartment in the West! Bought and paid for by Boston University in under 9 minutes from the time this hit the store. I can't believe we actually have that kind of flexibility in such a large institution.
