Test flew my woody quad tonight. Nothing fancy because it was after dark and the thing doesn't have lights (yet). Tested hover stability, directional response and throttle response. All really good with just the default settings. CC rocks!

CC board
AR6255
DT700 motors
Plush 18A ESC
10x4.5 props
a few sticks and a little plywood

The surprise was how powerful the DT700 motors are- a lot of headspace available.

I've included some photos. Obviously I need to finalize the build: shorten the motor shafts, tidy up the wiring, add protection for the electronics, balance props and attend to a few other minor details. Love it.

Rick,
What's the total weight of your Quad?
Also what's the Motor -to- Motor distance
and finally what is the Lipo battery you have on board?

Even though this quad is about as simple as it gets, it has taken me a while to get it together. Last night I finally got it to the point where it had the minimum needed to test, so I did a quick config on the CC and went out and flew in the front yard. There's still some things to do to get it to the point of putting it in the air in a mode I consider safe- altering the BEC wiring is one of those things. I almost did that last night, but I decided to jump on it and go fly. Also, I need to cut all of the bolts to length and install washers and nylon insert lock nuts. In the photo of the undercarriage, you can see where I've already lost a nut :) That probably came off on the bench rather than during the brief flight I made last night,

I also plan to eliminate the bullet connectors between the harness and ESCs because they are where I can't see them, and I don't trust them all that well. The ESC to motor connectors are out there where I can see them, so I'm not too worried about those.

The AUW is somewhere north of 26 oz- it maxxed out my kitchen scale LOL. Guess I need a better one. 24" between opposite motors, and the battery is an old Zippy-K 2300mah 20C. I bought several of these back when I was flying CCPM helis. The K stands for Korea, and at the time, the Zippy-K batteries were better than the Taiwan Zippys. Supposedly. These are fine for now, but I'll probably go to some batteries with higher discharge ratings eventually.

Lee-

OK- I added my humble novice self to the map :) There are two other guys over here that I know of with CC- I'll have to get them to join up too.

Well done Rick!

How thick is your ply? I've been playing around with a 3mm sheet of ply and found I had to (gorilla) glue two pieces together for each of the top and bottom plates.

Agree re. the DT motors, they're work horses.
Homebuilt Y6 Hexacopter (750kv motors, 11" and 12" props) - lifting a DLSR
Homebuilt FPV Quadcopter (1200 kv motors, 9" props) - lifting 1-2 GoPros
Homebuilt Tricopter (750kv motors, 11" props) - lifting 1-2 GoPros
Hombuilt Endurance Tricopter - 40+ min hover time (360kv motors, 15" props)
Bixler Plane (FPV enabled)
1900mm Skywalker Plane (on its way - to be FPV enabled)
Experimenting with ER9x, FrySky & a 1 watt booster

Well, in Imperial terms, the birch ply is 1/8" which I think is about 3mm. My plates are stiff though because of the way the arms are tied in. The arms end just short of the corners of the CC board. Nothing is glued together because I wanted the arms to be easy to replace in the event of an, ahem, mishap. It's all just bolted together. But, I only had it in the air for a minute last night just to see if it worked. When I get a chance to fly it around, the plates may reveal themselves as too flimsy.

Flying sandwich box is complete. Probably add some LEDs for orientation some time. :)
