If you use Google+ - or were waiting for an excuse - head over here and add us to your circles! We will post updates regularly to our various OpenPilot circles - team members, developers, and everyone. G+ pages have a "VIP" circle by default, we'll have to figure out what to use it for ;-)

Solving performance issues on the Mac
11 October 2011 - 08:11 PM
Hi everyone,
I did a bit of work on the GCS for the Mac, and I think the USB performance issues which were plaguing this platform are now gone - I won't get into specifics, but it was linked to using the pjrc_rawhid library in a multithreaded environment, a nice debug session
Bottom line: if you build the GCS from the latest "next" git branch, you should see USB performance on the same level as Linux or Windows. One caveat though, the uploader gadget "Halt" command does not work reliably, I did not spend enough time to debug that one, it's next in line. If you want to halt the board, just try several times in a row...
Please report any success or failure!

Hi everyone,
After what ended up being a summer break, I decided to take my microHex and rebuild the OP development environment from scratch to see how things have progressed over the summer: I'm really happy to see that things are going strong, it didn't take more than 20 minutes to build everything, upgrade and reconfigure, and my tiny hexacopter is flying like a champ again! Really glad to see things are working so well.
If anyone is curious about the microhex, there are pictures in the forums and of course documentation on the wiki, it is probably the most original - as in 'not yet another MK-looking star-shaped frame' - and smallest really practical GoPro-friendly platform out there! (search vimeo for "microhex" and http://wiki.openpilo...c/Ed's MicroHex).
Looking forward to resume my contributions to OpenPilot with the time I have, which is now less than over the last year, unfortunately, but I am definitely looking forward to work on the GCS features required for the 'pro' hardware and any general improvement that is needed.

Aerial video with the microHEX

Just shot this last week-end:
I have made a small but solid Gopro mount on the microhex frame, and I am quite happy about overall stability: the video is not post-processed at all, I just put a bit of music over it to remove the prop noise.
I have made the connector kit available on my webstore, by the way (www.aerodynes.fr), if you want to give it a try
I'll be updating the wiki with detailed build instructions over the week-end!
