Finally did a video worth sharing. Figured out that Rate is easier to fly than Attitude. Flew two batteries with 10 inch props and 2200ma batteries. Did a dummy at the end of the second flight and broke a prop so that was it for right then. No more 10 inch props. The weather was perfect and I couldn't resist. I had a set of 12 inch props so here we go. That's when this video was shot. I had the quad directly overhead doing a yaw to take a picture of the neighborhood. I was either consentrating so hard I just feel over or I tripped. Here comes the quad from about 75 feet up. It bounced off the roof of the house and landed upside down. The only damage was 2 more props and two motor mount slid up the arm and tilted. 15 minute repair and it's ready to go again. Or will be when I get some more props. I think I'm finally making some progress. I was getting tired of the crash and rebuild. That's why I went with the MQ-1 and its proving it's worth. Enjoy the video and remember the last time I flew anything it was a U-Control Barnstormer.

1st Flight – Comedy of Errors?

1st Flight – Comedy of Errors?
The time had come for that 1st flight. Sunny but cool, just a light breeze, (the wind always blows here in cornfield county). Anyway fresh battery, keychain camera charged, quick once over of the quad. Ready – camera on, armed, waited for ten seconds, lifted off. Up about 6 feet and hovered, tested for responses, yaw, roll, pitch all working perfectly but very quick. Great, it’s a success, now to get some video to show off. Didn’t want everyone to start calling me grasshopper. That’s really my piloting skills. Did a spiraling climb up to about 50 feet, yaw right for a couple of turns, yaw left for a couple more. All the time the quad is climbing and drifting with the wind and I’m about 100 feet up and 100 feet downwind. That’s when I lost orientation and couldn’t get it to come back my way. Seems everything I did only made it go further away. Throttled back and it went behind my garage out of sight. Couldn’t tell how high it was but cut the throttle. There’s a highway in that direction and I didn’t want it to go any further. When I finally found it out about 100 yards in a muddy cornfield the camera and receiver had been knocked off by the impact, 2 props were broken, and one arm was bent. And what’s even worse, the camera had shut itself off automatically just as the quad lifted off so no video. After cleaning off 3 lbs of mud from my shoes the wife lets me back in the house where I checked everything out. Everything works including the motors, ESC’s, Receiver and most important my CC board. Guess it’s just part of paying my dues, learning to fly. I’m sorry I don’t have any video to share. Next time I will, I figured out how to shut off that auto shut off feature on the keychain cam. I ordered a new set of arms from Eyefly and should be ready to try it again in a couple of weeks. This time low and slow and no showing off.

Slow Leveling mode
04 February 2012 - 04:17 PM
Is the slow leveling mode in CopterControl simular to the flight mode of the Gaui 330 in the Pheonix Simulator? Sort of lazily doing as asked but taking it's time to level out after. Flying my quad in stabilized mode feels entirely different from the simulator. Leveling is so much faster and precise that I can't seem to get used to it. I know more flying time will help but I am out of props. I've got one of those quad magnet trees that everyone is talking about.
I hope someone understands what I'm asking. Thanks for all the help in the past. It is appreciated.
GoPro Recomendation
04 February 2012 - 03:57 PM
Planning to buy a GoPro next month but which one. I want to take video from my quad. Not doing FPV yet but thinking about it. Would the Naked Hero do or should I be looking at one of the Hero 1080 models. Is the extra cost worth it? You guys have steered me right so far so trust your recommendations. Thanks for all the help.
Setup Checklist - Review - Revise - Correct
29 January 2012 - 01:06 PM
This started as a written follow along to the setup video. Sort of a crutch for a newbie. It has been suggested that it might be something worth adding to the WIKI. Help is needed in making it worthwhile to the most members.
